This course critically examines the theoretical and empirical underpinnings of social welfare policy in United States society. The primary focus is on considering different perspectives on social welfare policy, rather than describing the wide array of program areas within the domain of the social welfare system. We will study a range of approaches to social welfare policy as exemplified in various fields of practice. Accordingly, we will analyze the societal processes that shape social welfare policy, as well as its products and outcomes.
