Abstract. Standard meshbased methods such as the FEM are frequently and reliably used for the simulation of fluid and fluid-structure interaction problems. They may, however, fail in complex situation where a mesh of sufficient quality cannot be maintained. In these situations, meshfree methods may be used, however, they are considerably more time-consuming in general. Therefore, a coupled meshfree/meshbased fluid solver is developed in prior works, which combines the advantage of mesh-independency in meshfree methods with the efficiency of meshbased methods.
