The structure function of 4He is calculated based on a realistic spectral function which is consistent with the momentum sum rule. The calculation reproduces the empirical suppression of the EMC ratio R(x) = F2( 4He)=F2(D) at x < 1. At x » 1 the quasielastic contribution produces a sizable efiect in the ratio, but it becomes negligible around Q2 » 20 (GeV=c)2. 1
