This paper investigates wage setting in (West) Germany using the German Socioeconomic Panel data set on individuals and compares the results with those available for the UK and the US. One objective is to characterize wage rigidities that could impede adjustments in the labor market. Another objective is to evaluate whether the effects of such rigidities are large and could be attenuated with higher inflation. The results reveal similarities between Germany and the Anglo-American countries with respect to the setting of wages and the macroeconomic effects of rigidities. Moreover, these effects cannot be weakened by raising inflation
