An alternative dechlorination method of chlorobenzenes by using a simple electrolysis ystem via carbon dioxide fixation technique has been developed. Electrolysis of chlorcbenzene was carried out in a one-compartment cell fitted with an aluminium anode and a platinum cathode. Reaction in an N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) solution containing O.1M of tet€propylammonium bromide (TPAB) at ooc, 100 Ncc/min of CO, flow rate and 120 m/,/cm'of current density was found to be the optimum conditions of this elechocafuoxylation, which gaveT2o/a yield ot benzoic acid.
