Linking Personal Data: towards a web of digital memories

Our memories support us in all our daily tasks, such as to recognize places, people, concepts, etc. Nowadays, many of us are immersed in a digital environment, living experiences that also leave traces in our memory. This particular memory that we have about our digital environment, helps us to achieve many tasks inside the digital world. However, our digital environment does not represent our personal data as we remember it, consequently demanding from us a high mental load to re-find it. By building a web of concepts from our personal data, a richer representation of the digital environment that is closer to the mental model that we have about our personal data is created. This brings great benefit to users, especially, in re-finding information. We can achieve that by eliciting metadata about the personal data, interlinking it and integrating it with external sources of knowledge, therefore building a web of metadata that reflects concepts that users remember: a web of digital memories. Building a web of our digital memories is a multidisciplinary and challenging endeavor that we outline in this work
