Research question What is visual research and what functions does it serve in fashion and textile design students ’ learning experience and practice? Aims of research • To form a functioning definition of ‘visual research ’ in the context of fashion and textile design education based on empirical data and relevant literature. • To investigate the process of visual research in a longitudinal ethnographic study of fashion and textile design students. • To consider the ways in which the students engage with Victoria and Albert Museum in their visual research. • To present a contribution to new knowledge through the development of a theoretical framework of visual research to inform future design pedagogy
