In this paper I wish to discuss the dualistic approaches to vampires and vampirism in 1976 through the two major works of that year on vampires and their newfound identity. This new identity successfully breaks away from the previous vampire incarnations that were popularised in Bram Stoker’s Dracula and other major works of vampire fiction. It is an important ‘moment ’ in vampire literature and film where the vampire becomes the central focus of the story, and has his first opportunity to convey his own perspective of the events in the piece. He is no longer merely a monster to feature in the narrative but the driving force of the narrative itself.
