Need of health care structures’ development, based on annually data of ambulance transportations conducted by a Provincial hospital

Background: The geographical location of a hospital, its developed structures and the ambulance transportations were conducted by this hospital, are significant factors giving important information for the specific Health Care Institution and the need of structured development. Aim: The aim of the present study was the documentation of the real needs, weaknesses, and dynamics of a specific hospital, through the systematic recording of the ambulance transportations’ characteristics were taken place during a year. Material Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study aiming to record all ambulance transportations were made by the General Hospital of Corinth in 2014. For the analysis the statistical program SPSS 22.0was used. The statistical significance was set to p=0,005. In the registration protocol were included all the information recorded in ambulance transportation documents whereas in many cases, a clarification of data was needed(health professionals). Results: The study sample was consisted of all incidents of ambulance use services during 2014. In total 678 ambulance transportations were recorded. As far as the frequency of these transportations during this year, it was shown that in July and August the incidence of ambulance use services was greater (12,8% and 9,3% respectively). As far as the departments conducted the ambulance transportation, it was shown that the greater percentage of cases came from the cardiology clinic (29, 5%) and surgical emergency department (21,4%). The etiology of transportation remains unknown for the 57, 8% of cases, whereas, among the 42% of the registering transportations, high were the rates of ambulance transporting in order a coronary angiography to be performed (19,9%). Higher rates (23,3%) of ambulance transporting were observed in men originated from the surgical emergencies of the hospital with the etiology of car accident reporting, whereas lower rates of ambulance use (0,9%) were noticed in males orthopedic patients, concerning the transportation of serious incidents to a tertiary hospital. Conclusions: This study provided data related to the needs and abilities of a specific hospital. These data could be compared with those of other bordering hospitals, in order to be emerged a more rational management of the existing health care structures, targeting to patients’ benefit as well as to the optimization of health care service
