ASSEMBLIES OF GOD THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY PTH 632 Worship in the Church

An investigation of the role of worship in the Christian congregation with a view to developing a theology and philosophy of worship. Includes a study of worship in the Old and New Testaments and in the history of the Church. The distinctive elements of sacramental, word-centered, and Pentecostal worship are explored. COURSE OBJECTIVES Each participant should demonstrate through class activities and course requirements that the following objectives are valued and accomplished in significant ways: Knowledge 1. Development of a biblical theology for worship and familiarity with its Scriptural basis. 2. Integration of the Pentecostal-charismatic biblical texts into a personal theology of worship. 3. Understanding of the role of the Holy Spirit in preparing and leading worship services. 4. Basic familiarity with the historic and contemporary liturgies of the churches. 5. Identification and comprehension of the major streams of worship music in contemporary American churches in general and Pentecostal-charismatic churches in particular
