The paper describes a training course on the application of controllers in the closed control loops, where PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) instruction is most often used for control of continuous processes. An introduction to closed loop control technology is also provided. The basic structure of a closed control loop is explained. It enables to understand the interaction between the controlled system and controlling equipment (PLC). Application and tuning of the control algorithm improve efficiency and performance. PLCs S7-200 have PID control functions with tuning according to the tuning rules of Åström and Hägglund, which are able to accomplish process control effectively
