General methods for culturing C. elegans strains were as described in [S1–S3]. Except where noted, all experiments were performed at 20C. All strains were derived from Bristol N2, except where noted. The following mutations and chromosome rearrangements were used in the present study: LGIV: unc-17(e245), dpy-13(e184), unc-5(e53), dpy-20(e1282ts), unc-30(e191), dpy-4(e1166); LGX: unc-1(e719), dpy-3(e27), unc-2(e55), dpy-6(e14), unc-3(e151)
