This article analyses the main dimensions of the political recruitment process and how they affect the proportion of women nominated on party lists. There are three key dimensions of the political recruitment process: (a) nominating procedures; (b) inclusiveness of the selectorate; (c) territorial centralisation. The inclusiveness of selectorate is a core element of the representativeness of the gender composition of the candidate lists. In order to increase gender representativeness on the party lists, it is necessary to apply both inclusiveness and exclusiveness of selectorate procedures. Furthermore, other key elements are the composition of the initial pool of the candidates and the recruiters lists
