The "female athlete triad" refers to a situation that is often seen\ud among women who perform high performance sports. The triad is\ud composed of three pathologies that are more commonly observed\ud separately; eating disorders, amenorrhea/oligomenorrhoea and\ud decreased bone mineral density. These three components are\ud interrelated and its development is based on low energy reserve of\ud the athlete. Although this triad was described more than a decade\ud ago, the society and the athletes are not aware of the serious longterm\ud consequences.
