In our analysis of Chilean film director Patricio Guzman's Nostalgia de la luz (2010), we focus on how the aesthetic treatment of the images produces new ways of studying historic memory. The documentary deals with one of Guzman's recurring themes: Chile’s recent dictartorship and its effects. We also analyze the different temporalities emerging in the Atacama Desert: what kinds of temporal connections occur in the composition of certain images, and what kinds of possibilities those temporary transformations offer
