Continually increasing world population requires additional food production in the face of growing water scarcity. Evapotranspiration from irrigated land, where much of the world’s food is produced, is one of the most useful indicators to explain whether the water is used as “intended ” or not. Remote sensing techniques have been developed and applied for the computation of actual evapotranspiration, mainly within irrigation systems.
