Flies were raised on standard medium at 25C. stathmin is an essen-tial gene in Drosophila, and the stathminL27 mutant is described in [S1]. It is a small deletion that completely removes the single Drosophila stathmin gene. Expression of an adjacent gene also removed by the deletion and expected to encode a component of the Arp2/3 actin-regulatory complex (arc-p20) was rescued by a transgene in all experiments. Without the arc-p20 rescue con-struct, additional actin-related phenotypes were observed: small ring canals and dumping defects, as seen for other Arp2/3 mutants [S2].
