Yancheng Biosphere Reserve is an important wintering site for Red-crowned Crane. Using GIS method, analysis on the habitats for Red-crowned Crane shows that the area of optimal habitats is only 188.41 Km2, which is 68.29 % of the area in 1989-1990. Expect the core area and adjacent area, other habitats for Red-crowned Crane in Yancheng Biosphere Reserve were lost for the local economic development. Study shows that only 1,376 Red-crowned Crane can be hold in the core area and adjacent area with no human disturbance.
