Background: The importance of musical ability has been shown to be of fundamental value in the understanding of human cognition. The evaluation of music perception through case studies in cognitive neuropsychology has already provided some useful insights, although the existing music perception batteries do not take into account cultural issues and differences and therefore cannot be used worldwide to validate their universal claims about human musical cognition.
