About five hundred strains of Clostridium perfringens were tested for ability to produce urease. There was found to be a distinct, although not complete, correlation between urease production and antigenic type. In types B and D there was also some degree of correlation between the production of urease and of h-antigen. The distribution of urease between the six antigenic types of C. perfringens was not sufficiently sharp to be of use in type differentiation
