Cannonite, ideally Bi20(OH)2SO4, is a new mineral from the Tunnel Extension mine, Ohio Mining District, Marysvale, Utah, USA. It occurs mostly as intergrown crystalline aggregates (<1 mm) of subhedral to euhedral equant to prismatic rystals (<200 ~tm) in cavities in quartz gangue. Other associated minerals are cuprobismutite, bismuthinite, and covelline. Cannonite is colourless and transparent with an adamantine lustre and white streak. It is brittle with an uneven to conchoidal fracture. In reflected light it is low reflecting, weakly to moderately bireflectant and weakly anisotropic.
