Abstract: For the present study the soil samples were collected from three different oil contaminated sites at Mayiladuthurai and Nagappattinam District in India. Soil samples were used to analyze total nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, iron, manganese and electrical conductivity Ec (dSM). The temperature1 was found to vary in the three different soil samples. The macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) and micronutrients (zinc, copper, iron and manganese) were also different in three soil samples. Seven bacteria were isolated from the oil contaminated soil samples. From the above isolates Micrococcus sp was taken for the present study.
