Le schéma organisationnel et le poids politique des partis socialistes du sud de l’Europe a souvent été décrié eu égard au modèle social-démocrate des partis d’Europe scandinave et centrale voire à la tradition travailliste britannique. Cette contribution teste le caractère performant des organisations des partis socialistes français, italien, grec et portugais dans une perspective évolutive et comparée. La comparaison est réalisée entre partis socialistes du sud de l’Europe et partis sociaux-démocrates du centre et du nord de l’Europe. Les indicateurs utilisés sont, pour les performances externes, les résultats électoraux et le potentiel de coalition, et pour les performances internes, l’évolution des affiliés et la qualité du leadership. The organizational framework and the political weight of the Socialist Parties of Southern Europe have often been negatively compared to the Social Democratic model of the Scandinavian and Central European Parties ’ and even to the British Labour tradition. This paper checks the performance of the French, Italian, Greek and Portuguese Socialist Parties from an evolutionary and comparative perspective. The comparison is carried out between the Socialist Parties of Southern Europe and between Southern European Socialist Parties and Central and Nordic European Social Democratic Parties. The indicators used for the external dimension are electoral results and the coalition potential, and the evolution of Party membership and leadership performance for the inner dimension
