The results of exploration of buckwheat germplasm resources in Shennongjia and the Three Gorges area showed that buckwheat has been grown for centuries; two cultivated species, common buckwheat '(jagopyrum esculenWm Moench) and tartary buckwheat (Fagopgrum tataricum (L.) Gaetrn). and two wild species, perennial wild buckwheat (Fagopyrum qr1I08Ilffl (Trev.) Meisn) and annual wild buckwheat (Fagopyrum graciJispes L.) were found in the area; the elevation for common buckwheat was found at ranges from 300m above sea level to 2000m, mainly from 800m to 1200m; tartary buckwheat was mainly planted in the area above 120Om.
