Evaluation is often overlooked in youth program implementation. This study is part of a preliminary evaluation of an urban youth development program directed at 14-to 24-year-olds in a Connecticut city. There were 46 participants who responded to a survey that included measures on life satisfaction, self-esteem, skills gained through the program, connectedness, and emotional experiences. The program appears to combine the positive benefits of both skill building and relationship building. The present study extends prior research by adding a theoretical component (emotional experiences) and psychometrically valid measurement
