NARRATIVE SUMMARY

Over the past decade, a considerable amount of information has been developed on water resources in the New Mexico-Chihuahua border region. Some of this information is included in reports that are accessible via the Internet, but there is not much. Even when available, obtaining the information is not easy. Some of the information can be acquired only in hard copy, but it is difficult to locate. This information is, therefore, often overlooked. The objective of this project is to design, develop, and co-host websites that will deliver information on water resources for the New Mexico-Chihuahua border region. These websites would be created in English and Spanish and could be launched from the Southwest Consortium for Environmental Research and Policy (SCERP) website. The system would utilize ESRI ArcIMS ©, which is an Internet mapping system that allows users to produce their own maps by connecting to host systems, without the need for software or data. This system would also provide access to data and other information about an item on the map by simple selection. In addition, this process would allow users to display data on maps of their design at the appropriate scale. Finally, users would be able to select and download data for their local processing, such as generating graphical summaries or other evaluations.
