This paper argues for the significant role of product and system level architectures and architectural knowledge for a product or system developing enterprise. The explicit development and use of this knowledge can enable the enterprise to more effectively and efficiently address the accelerating rate of change in business and technology environment that characterize many industry domains today. Aspects of a framework for the explicit development, management and use of system level architectures and architectural knowledge are proposed as a basis for further research
