Motor development research has experienced greater frequency in top-tier science journals over the past 25 years. While some dialogue has been of environmental factors, to a much greater extent, discussions of motor development have focused on the biological, psychological, cognitive, or movement aspects of change. Few would disagree that to truly understand the mechanisms and processes associated with change in human form and level of motor behavior, a more comprehensive and integrated approach is needed – one that links biological and environmental theory. One such approach and the focus of this chapter is the Developmental Systems Perspective
