Abstract—We have demonstrated an amplifying waveguide optical isolator with an integrated electromagnet. This provides a solution to the generally poor magnetic remanence of this type of isolator. The proof of principle is presented and optimization routes are discussed. Index Terms—Magnetooptic Kerr effect, optical isolators, semi-conductor optical amplifiers (SOAs)
