Manufacturing systems must adapt to new challenges impacting the economy. New structures, behaviours and requirements arise in response to those challenges. These elements are systematised and different problem approaches are analysed. Multi-agent concepts generally and holonic concept specially are studied. Based on its requirements and characteristics several frameworks are compared. Besides, a new framework is presented and its characteristics and features are briefly described.
