The benefits of electronic media in engineering, such as interactive simulations, three-dimensional visualization and animations are widely known. However the implementation of such media has been difficult because of lack of classroom facilities and student access to the programs. Most of the implementation problems can be overcome and a true asynchronous learning environment can be established if CD based multimedia is integrated with current course material on the Internet. This scenario is particularly useful when all students have their own personal laptop computers and the learning environment is connected with a wireless network.
