Olive cake (OC), which is a waste of olive oil-mill, is an important biomass generated in Mediterranean countries. OC is available in large amounts at a very low cost. Vegetable oils and olive cake can be considered as alternative fuels, which do not contain sulfur. Efficient use of OC in energy production solves the two problems in one step: clean energy production and acceptable disposal of olive-mill wastes. The sulfur content of olive cake is about 0.05–0.1 wt%.
