VIRTUAL ORGANIZATIONS: FROM THE ASHES OF THE DOT.COMS

Many traditional organizations felt vindicated by the fall of the Dot.coms. However, in their short, but volatile rise and fall, their impact was both dramatic and enduring. The turbulent environment of the 21st economy demands that successful organizations incorporate innovation, flexibility, as well as the ability to rapidly respond to the ever changing demands of customers. Virtual organizations, empowered by the lessons learned from the Dot.com debacle, are alliance/partnership-based organizations structured to use technology and the Net to effectively respond to these challenges. In the 21st century, advances in technology, enhanced by the power of the Net, enables virtual organizations to provide products and services through the synergistic coordination of geographically distributed organizations.
