Cri du chat syndrome (CDCS) is a genetic disorder resulting from loss of genetic material from the short arm of chromosome 5. Symptoms include the following: A characteristic cry during infancy (perceptually and acoustically similar to the mewing of kittens), mental retardation, motor deficits and moderate to severe developmental delays, including delay in language development.
