Graduation date: 1990Counseling is a novel in three parts structurally and metaphorically comparing\ud and contrasting the workings of the brain and mind.\ud Through the story of a man recovering from a head injury I am creating a world\ud in the text which equates the schizophrenia of postmodern criticism with the literal\ud problems associated with such an injury. My character relates his tale in a first\ud person narrative, predominantly in journal-entry form: however, the time sequence\ud is deliberately nonlinear.\ud The plot follows the character from the initial accident, of which he has no\ud memory, through his hospital stay, and over the course of his recovery, about three\ud years.
