The electrochemical behavior of potential orthopedic Mg–Ca, AZ31 and AZ91 alloys was studied in Hank’s solution, Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium (DMEM) and serum-containing medium (DMEM adding 10 % fetal bovine serum (DMEM+FBS)) over a 7 day immersion period. The biocorrosion of the above three alloys for various immersion time intervals was investigated by linear polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). After 7 day immersion, potentiodynamic polarization tests were carried out and the surface morphologies of experimental samples were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation complemented by energy-disperse spectrometer (EDS) analysis.
