The decentralized supervisory control problem of dis-crete event systems with local specications is studied in this paper. A necessary and sucient condition is obtained for the existence of modular supervisors for ensuring that a group of local specications is achieved by the controlled system. For illustration an example of a simple manufacturing system is given. This paper provides a modular approach for the design of supervi-sors for large systems
