In this paper, we consider the use of space diver-sity methods in conjunction with interference rejec-tion combining (IRC) to mitigate the impact of inter-ference and noise for interference limited scenarios. The use of transmit diversity schemes in a system, will in general limit the interference rejection capabil-ities of IRC techniques. We introduce a novel space-time IRC (STIRC) scheme that exploits the spatio-temporal correlation induced by cochannel users em-ploying transmit diversity in the form of space-time block codes (STBC). Thus, the system can draw upon the benets of interference rejection methods although transmit diversity is being employed.
