This paper is dedicated to Hugh Greenwood in appreciation for all he has so elegantly done to enhance our quantidti;e understanding of metasomatic processes. It was Hugh Greenwood who first explained how T-X1co,l diagra*s can be used to advantage in representing and interpreting complex phase relations in metamorphic systems (Grienwood 1962). I hope he will find Figure 15 in the present communication gratifying in this regard, because to my knowledge it is the first T-Xtco,t diigram to be published in which one of the curves represents metastable equilibrium imong minerals, a Cb21h2O fluid, and hydrocarbon species in petroleum at high temperatures and piessures. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly express my appreciation to Hu...
