PREDICTION OF RIVER BANK EROSION IN THE LOWER MEKONG RIVER DELTA

River bank sliding is a threat to life and property of local people living by the rivers. That has become a common phenomenon in the recent decades, restraining the economic development process of the important South-West economic region of Vietnam. In order to reduce such damages and establishment of a scientific base for training plan of river system and riverside development, a national project KC08-15 “Research on the river bank erosion and sedimentation prediction and solution suggestions for river system of the Lower Mekong Delta ” has been carried out. After three years implementation, this research project achieved significant scientific and practical results, which have contributed to the reduce of live and lost and the relief of property damages due to river bank erosion of the river system in recent years
