The fast pace of global economic integration and the spread of information and communication technologies (ICTs) have substantial distributional and structural implications which, despite their relevance, are not sufficiently recognised at the policy level. The present work explores these issues through a literature review of scholarly and policy makers ’ contributions. It analyses the interactions between economic policies and technological dynamics in the EU and highlights their impact on the development of the European knowledge-based society
