This paper describes the progress of an interdisciplinary project that aims to develop a general sonification software environment. The approach taken is interdisciplinary; a number of target sci-ences form an integral part of the work process. Within the first year, we have made good progress in some areas, while others have turned out to be more difficult. We describe the project back-ground, the work done so far in the target sciences, the general software framework, and what we have learned about the interdis-ciplinary work process. 1
