We developed optical compensation for Verti-cally Aligned mode LCDs using thin coatable bire-fringent films produced by Crysoptix Ltd. The new coatable retarder films compensate both the liquid crystal layer and polarizers. The new retarders provide near perfect viewing angle properties in the visible spectral range.
