Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) impregnated waste materials are generated during the treating process and from treated wood removed from service. This material is currently land-filled, which creates concerns because of the bulky nature of wood and the potential for leaching of some Cr, Cu and As components of the preservative. A recycling process has been developed whereby up to 99 % of the CCA components are extracted from the waste material. CCA treated wood waste is chipped and reacted with a proprietary lixivient which mobilizes the CCA components and brings them into solution. The Aclean @ wood and other residues pass the TCLP test and can be reused for paper or composite products or disposed of in a normal landfill. The pregnant solu...
