Unpredictable adverse results can ensue from blood transfusion therapies because of the donation of cells from a very large number of anonymous volunteers. There is little doubt that transfusable blood cells produced on a large scale in vitro would be candidate materials to replace cells donated from such a large group of anonymous individuals.
