User Interface for access to Statistical Databases, the MISSION perspective

Abstract: In this paper the user interface for access to statistical databases is explored for the user groups of MISSION. The two main types of user groups are:- Light-weight users (e.g. school manager): these users are used to reading tables that they get from research institutes. They want to make small changes to published tables to customise them to their specific needs.- Heavy-weight users (e.g. researcher): these users are used to working with statistical data query languages. Their work consists of processing of data geared towards an information request. We propose a user interface consisting of a framework and various windows. Special attention is given to the table driven user interface window for the light-weight users
