After a short introduction about the programme of 'Structural Eurocodes', the two parts of Eurocode 7 on 'Geotechnical Design ' are presented, namely 'Part 1: General rules ' (EN 1997-1) and 'Part 2: Ground investi-gation and testing ' (EN 1997-2). The provisions and requirements of Eurocode 7 for the design of pile foun-dations are reviewed and commented upon (Section 7 of EN 1997-1). Finally, two design examples of piles under axial loads are given, one from ground test results and one from pile load test results
