Abstract. The impact parameter dependence of the capture of a target L-subshell electron by a light projectile is calculated within the semiclassical impulse approximation (SCIA). The anisotropy of the resulting target 2p vacancies is strongly dependent on impact parameter and projectile energy. As an example, (p, Ar) and (p, Ne) collisions are studied and the capture cross sections are compared with experimental data. 1
