A nonlinear model predictive control package is applied to a laboratory experimental set-up used for process control teaching and training. The package is based on open-source and free-software. The application is illustrated with a simple pilot scale process involving two controlled process variables. This solution may enable educational organizations to include affordable predictive control technology in the undergraduate laboratory courses of Industrial and Chemical Engineering
