Abstract: Gas-liquid mass transfer across falling films is a widespread technique for evaluating absorption performances of solvents in the petrochemical industry. Nevertheless, this simple configuration suffers a number of complications arising from the hydrodynamic instability of the fluid interface. In this work, numerical simulations of a falling film are carried out to evaluate the role of interfacial waves on the mass transfer coefficient measurement. We used the Volume of Fluid (VOF) approach to couple simultaneously the hydrodynamic of the flow and the transfer of the gas across the wavy liquid interface. Different shapes of the liquid film are investigated. We observe a significant increase of mass transfer for solitary waves induc...
